Pre-Purchase Exams

We highly recommend a pre-purchase examination for any prospective horse owner.  This is a very thorough examination and evaluates the horse’s overall health and soundness.  Blood samples are also taken for drug testing, and these are held for 6 months if further testing is required.
We evaluate the following systems during our pre-purchase exams:
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Cardiovascular
  • Ophthalmic
  • Respiratory
  • Neurological

Our soundness exam includes:

  • A complete history
  • Palpation of musculature, tendons and suspensory ligaments
  • Palpation of all joints
  • Hoof conformation and evaluation
  • General conformation
  • Evaluation of gait in hand, and if applicable, undersaddle
  • Flexion tests and assessments

Optional options include:

  • Radiographs
  • Serum drug testing
  • Blood and organ function tests
